Signal Android update: a lot of work done on Signal backups

Jun 19, 2025

Signal has released a new beta version for Android: 7.46. What’s new in this update?

In the latest version of Signal for Android, the developers have primarily focused on the upcoming backup feature. Bugs have been fixed, design tweaks made, and some texts improved.

As our regular readers already know, a free backup plan is coming for everyone, along with a paid backup subscription offering more extensive backup options. As it currently stands, the free version will include all text messages and your media from the past 30 days. A paid version of the backup will include all shared media. Since the feature is still in development, this can still be subject to change. In this version, the developers have made it possible to use the same Google account to subscribe to a backup plan for multiple Signal accounts.

It is not yet known when backups will be available to everyone. Currently, Signal backups are still being tested internally.
