Signal has released a new beta version for Android: 7.54. What’s new in this update?
In the latest version of Signal for Android, the developers have fixed several bugs and introduced a few other improvements. For example, a bug has been resolved with syncing chat folders, and stickers keyboard scroll performance has been improved. In addition, improvements have been made to the calling user interface in landscape mode.
Android tablets and foldable phones
Notably, the team has worked on the user interface for larger screens, such as tablets and foldable phones. Updates include changes to the background layout (GitHub commit) and to the participants list in calls (GitHub commit).
Android tablets are not yet officially supported, but it seems that Signal is working on this. Signal has not confirmed this yet. As soon as more information becomes available, you will of course read about it on our site. iOS users can already use Signal on iPads.
Signal backups
Work has also continued on Signal’s upcoming backup feature. Several bugs have been fixed, and improvements have been made regarding password managers. For the past few weeks, testers have been able to try out the alpha version of Signal backups. In this article you’ll find everything we currently know about Signal backups.
It is not yet known when backups will be rolled out to the regular beta version or become available to everyone.
