Signal iOS update: lot bug fixes, and pinned messages are getting closer

Jan 12, 2026

Signal has a new beta version for iOS: 7.91. What’s new in this update?

The developers of Signal for iOS have mainly used the weeks around the holidays to fix many small bugs and implement other improvements, including for Signal backups.

Pinned messages

A lot of work has also been done on the new Pinned messages feature, which will soon come to Signal. A pinned message will be displayed at the top of a chat or group for all participants.

One of the GitHub commits (8719045) shows that in groups, you can set who is allowed to pin and unpin messages: either only administrators or all members. This falls under the same group permission as editing the group name, photo, description, and disappearing message timer.

It will be possible to pin all types of messages: photos, videos, stickers, voice messages, GIFs, and view-once media. Disappearing messages can also be pinned, but they will automatically be unpinned and deleted when the set timer expires.

This feature is currently being developed for iOS, Android, and Desktop. We have already gotten a preview and had the chance to test the new feature on Android. The first screenshots of pinned messages in Signal for Android can be found here. The iOS design will, of course, look slightly different, but the feature will function in the same way.
