New Signal updates for Android, iOS, and Desktop bring mostly behind-the-scenes improvements

Feb 6, 2026

Signal has released new beta versions for Android, iOS, and Desktop. What’s new in these updates?

The Signal developers have fixed several bugs and implemented other technical improvements over the past week.

All platforms have seen work on key transparency. This feature allows the app to automatically verify that end-to-end encryption of conversations remains intact, without users having to manually check via QR codes or safety numbers. The feature is currently under active development.

Another feature in development across all platforms is member labels. With labels, you can give a short description about yourself in a group that is visible to all current and future group members. Signal has confirmed to us that this feature is being developed for all platforms.

Signal for Android version 7.73

For Android users, Signal’s in-app camera has been improved. You can now zoom before starting a recording. Previously, the zoom would reset to the default setting when starting a recording, but now you get a better preview of your video.

In addition, the performance of sending the first message to a large group has been improved. Further, issues where attachment downloads would get stuck after a call ends have been fixed, and a bug preventing the keyboard from opening reliably when system animations were disabled has also been resolved.

Signal for iOS version 7.95

For iPhone users, most of the work has been behind the scenes on the previously mentioned member labels and key transparency.

Signal Desktop version 7.89

The latest version of Signal Desktop now allows donations via PayPal. Donations via PayPal were already possible through the mobile apps and the official Signal website. Signal is a non-profit organization, primarily funded by user donations.

Finally, a bug has also been fixed that prevented text formatting from working when Caps Lock was enabled.
