Signal has added a new feature: Polls. From now on, users can create a poll directly in group chats, something that has been requested for years. The feature is first being tested in the beta versions of Signal.
How polls work in Signal
To create a new poll, tap the + icon next to the text field and select “Poll”. After that, you can enter a question and add multiple answer options.
By long-pressing the icon with the three lines and dragging, you can change the order of the options.
When creating a poll, you can specify whether participants can vote for one or multiple options. This makes polls suitable for things like planning appointments, choosing a favorite meal, or making important group decisions.
An active poll appears directly in the chat and shows the question and options.
All group members can view the current votes or final results of the poll by tapping the “View votes” or “View results” button. In the poll details screen, you can see the total number of votes per option and who voted for which answer.
Secure and private
As you would expect from Signal, polls are fully end-to-end encrypted. This means that only the participants in the chat can see the poll and votes, and no one else — not even Signal. This ensures you can vote safely and privately within the group.
Verfügbarkeit
The poll feature is now rolling out in the latest beta versions of Signal for Android (7.65), iOS (7.86), and Desktop (7.80). After a short testing period, polls will be available to everyone. Users of the production version of the app can already receive polls from beta testers. Make sure to update your app to use this feature.
With this update, Signal responds to one of the most popular feature requests from people switching from WhatsApp to Signal. Polls make organizing things in group chats much easier and more fun.
