Is it possible to create a poll in group chats in Signal? This is a question many Signal users ask themselves. The answer is: yes and no 🙂
Although it is currently (as of 2025) not possible to create a complex poll in Signal, emoji reactions can be used for simple polls. Signal itself demonstrated how this works on Twitter.
Bring together your brain trust in the group chat to weigh in on life’s important decisions with reactions. It’s *almost* in-app polling (we know you want it, patience is a virtue) pic.twitter.com/ENA9rbd2UC

Here’s how it works:
- Create a message in the Signal group in which you list the different answer options and the corresponding emoji.
- You can use 👍 and 👎 for simple yes/no questions, number the answers with the number emojis 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣, or select emojis that match the answer options (as in the example above).
- Other group members can now click on the message and respond with the appropriate emoji. You can find more information about message reactions on this Signal support page.
- If more than one group member responds with the same emoji, the number appears next to the emoji. This way you can quickly see the results.
- By clicking on the emojis you can see how different group members voted.
By the way: If group members change their minds they can change the selected emoji at any time.
Conclusion
Simple polls are easy to create in Signal. They are straightforward and clear. And for more complicated surveys Signal hinted in the tweet above that there might be a dedicated feature for this in the future.
