Signal Android update: improvements for split screen

Nov 6, 2025

Signal has a new beta version for Android: 7.64. What’s new in this update?

The latest version of Signal for Android mainly includes bug fixes and technical improvements. The developers have further improved the recently introduced Signal Secure Backups, and work has continued on the Polls feature.

The update also introduces a new animation when navigating back to the chat list.

Android tablet support in progress

Signal has also improved the split-screen design for large displays, such as foldable phones. This is an important step toward support for Android tablets. Soon, you will be able to use your Android tablet as a linked device for Signal.

Signal informed us last week that Android tablets are already being tested internally, but they could not yet specify when it will be available to everyone.

Minimum Android version 6.0 required

Finally, as of this update, Android 6.0 or higher is required to use Signal. Signal no longer supports Android 5.0 (Lollipop), for which the last security update was released in March 2018.
