Good news for anyone who occasionally needs to pick a date, choose a location, or organize something else: Signal appears to be working on a new poll feature. A commit titled “Basic UI infrastructure for polls” has surfaced in Signal’s iOS code. This suggests that the developers are laying the first building blocks for polls in Signal.
Until now, users had to get creative and make polls using emoji reactions. Convenient, but somewhat cumbersome. A proper poll feature would make it much easier to gauge opinions or vote within a group.
The new feature has not yet been officially announced by Signal, but from previous conversations with the organization, we know that polls are high on Signal’s wishlist. The lack of polling in Signal is a commonly mentioned drawback among users switching from WhatsApp, where they were used to having a poll feature.

With the commit “Basic UI infrastructure for polls”, Signal is establishing the first visual building blocks: the feature itself isn’t functional yet, but the foundation for how polls will eventually look has been set.
When the poll feature will become available is still unknown. As soon as there’s more news, you’ll of course read about it on AboutSignal.com and our social media channels Bluesky, Mastodon or X.
