After strong growth at the beginning of 2025, the percentage of Dutch people using Signal has remained stable at around 15 percent. This is according to the latest data from the Telecompaper Consumer Insight panel for October. While some feared it might be a temporary hype, Signal has proven capable of retaining users and becoming a lasting presence in the Netherlands.

Last May, Signal’s market reach in the Netherlands was around 14 percent according to Telecompaper, and it now stands between 14 and 15 percent.

More than two million users

Signal now has over two million users in the Netherlands.

Both men and women have embraced the app: in the third quarter of 2025, 15 percent of men had installed it, compared to 14 percent of women.

Differences between age groups and education levels

There are clear differences between age groups. Among young people under 24, less than 5 percent have the app on their smartphone. Among 24- to 35-year-olds, the figure is 11 percent, while the 35 to 55 age group shows the highest penetration at 17 percent. Among those over 55, 14 percent have installed the app.

Education level also appears to be an important factor. Only 6 percent of people with lower education use Signal, compared to 13 percent of those with medium education and 20 percent of those with higher education.

Signal continues to innovate

Signal is constantly working on new features to make the app more user-friendly and keep it appealing for both existing and new users.

For example, Signal is developing various new backup features, group polls, and a tablet version for Android.

The desktop version, Signal Desktop, has also recently been significantly improved with chat folders and notification profiles.
