Signal has a new beta version for Android: 7.67. What’s new in this update?
The latest version of Signal for Android includes various bug fixes and other technical improvements. For example, the positioning of emoji reactions has been improved for RTL languages, and an issue was resolved where the keyboard would not close after searching for an emoji.
Wi-Fi network detection has also been improved when using a VPN. Previously, you might receive the message “Waiting for Wi-Fi” even when your phone was already connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Work has also continued on Android tablet support, particularly the screen for adding new members to groups. You can find the first screenshots of Signal on Android tablets here.
Pinned messages in development
In this version the developers of Signal for Android have made significant progress on the new Pinned Messages feature.
Last week, we saw the first indications of pinned messages in the iOS source code, and a Signal spokesperson confirmed that this feature is currently being developed for all platforms.
In this Android version of Signal, the groundwork for the feature has been laid, including work on the design for the dark theme.
A pinned message will be displayed at the top of a chat for a certain period of time for all participants. With this feature, you can prevent important messages from getting lost among other messages. This is useful, for example, for announcements, appointments, or group rules that all members need to see.
Pinned messages will be available in 1:1 chats and in groups. As it currently appears, it will be possible to pin all types of messages: photos, videos, stickers, voice messages, GIFs, and view-once media.
It is not yet known when Pinned messages will be available in Signal. As soon as there is more news, you will of course find it on our website and social media channels Bluesky, Mastodon ou X.
