Signal Desktop has a new beta version: 7.76. What’s new in this update?
The latest version of Signal Desktop contains various bug fixes and other improvements.
The biggest news is the introduction of notification profiles in Signal Desktop, which we first discovered hints of in the source code in May of this year.
Notification profiles
With notification profiles, you can decide how, when, and from whom you receive notifications. For example, you can create different settings for situations such as work, sleep, or specific times of the day.
The new Notification Profiles feature is located under Settings > Notifications:
In the Notification Profiles screen, you can adjust your current notification profiles or create a new profile.
You can also choose whether to synchronize your notification profiles across your devices. This means that when you enable or disable a notification profile in Signal Desktop, it will also be enabled or disabled on your other devices.
When creating a new notification profile, you can select which people or groups you want to allow notifications from.
You can also choose to always allow notifications for all calls or all mentions, regardless of your other notification settings.
You can turn notification profiles on or off manually, or automatically according to a schedule. With a schedule, you can, for example, allow notifications only on weekends, weekdays, or during a specific time block. This gives you full control over when Signal Desktop sends you notifications.
Once you have set the optional schedule, the notification profile is created.
You can see an activated Notification Profile at the top of your chat list, which gives you access to quick settings:
With notification profiles, Signal Desktop becomes more personal and organized, allowing you to tailor the app entirely to your daily routine.
Android users have been able to use notification profiles for a longer time. It is not yet known when this will come to iOS.
