Signal gets new setting for sticker and GIF autoplay

8 October 2026 09:31 CEST

Signal gets a new setting to control the autoplay of stickers and GIFs, giving users more control over animated content in their chats. The feature is first available in the Android beta and is expected to come to iOS and Desktop as well.

Autoplay is enabled by default, but if you prefer stickers and GIFs not to play automatically, you can turn it off in the app’s settings (Settings > Chats). This can be particularly useful for accessibility, as some users may be sensitive to motion, or simply prefer to avoid animations in their chats.

The setting applies to both incoming and outgoing stickers and GIFs. When autoplay is turned off, you can tap to play the GIF or sticker animation.

Availability

The feature is available in Android beta version 8.31, and expected to eventually come to iOS and Desktop as well.

As soon as there is more news, you will of course find it on our website and social media channels.
