Signal releases new beta version for Android: 7.45. What’s new in this update?
The latest version of Signal for Android includes various bug fixes and other technical improvements. Most of the work has been done behind the scenes.
Signal backups
About half of the changes relate to Signal’s upcoming backup feature. Several bugs have been fixed, some texts have been updated, and the uploading of large attachments to Signal’s storage service has been improved.
Signal backups are currently being tested internally. Developer Greyson confirmed on the Community Forum that cloud backups will soon be available for testing in a staging environment. After a successful testing phase, Signal backups will be rolled out to everyone. There is no official launch date yet: the feature will be ready when it’s ready. So, a bit more patience!
Timestamp for edited messages
In update 7.45 for Android, Signal also adjusted the way timestamps work for edited messages. Previously, the timestamp would change to the time when a message was edited. As a result, older chat messages could appear with newer timestamps, making the conversation look out of order and somewhat confusing. From now on, the original timestamp will remain visible:
