The latest updates in Signal’s Android source code reveal some interesting new features currently in development. We briefly discuss them in this post.
The descriptions below apply specifically to Android. In practice, new features are often tested on Android first due to its more flexible development and testing environment. Once features are officially released, Signal aims to make them available across all platforms.
Linked Android tablets getting closer
First of all, linked Android tablets are getting closer. This will allow users to link an Android tablet as a linked device, similar to how linked devices currently work on iPad and Desktop. Earlier previews already hinted at this direction, including our sneak preview from November 2025 showing the first screenshots of Signal for Android tablets.
Now the Android tablet linking flow has been enabled for debug builds (GitHub commit a7de533), making it one step closer to completion.
Sticker replies
Another upcoming feature is support for sticker replies (GitHub commit 7d6a31b). We also see this in development for Signal Desktop (GitHub commit 9da5342). This will allow users to respond to messages using stickers that function as quoted replies, adding a more expressive and fun way to reply.
Member search in groups
Signal is also working on improving usability in larger groups. A new member search option in group details will let users quickly find specific participants within a group, which is especially useful in large groups (GitHub commit ec18fb4).
Improved notification management
Finally, improvements are being made to notifications. These include per-conversation controls that allow calls and replies to break through muted chats. This appears to be a Labs feature for now, meaning it may still be experimental or subject to change (GitHub commit 600acb8).
More features in development under Labs
In addition to the features above, Signal continues to experiment with new features under its Labs environment. Some of the features we discussed in our post about Signal Labs have already been released, while others, such as starred messages and story archives, are still part of this experimental environment.
As always, as soon as there’s more news, you will find it on our website and social media.
In the meantime, be sure to regularly check our release pages for Android, iOS e Desktop to see what has been released in the latest versions of Signal.
