In addition to starting calls directly from a group, you can also create a call link in Signal and share it with anyone you want to invite to the call. Unlike a regular group call in Signal, call links do not require you to create a group first. As the creator of the call link, you can decide whether new participants need to be approved before joining.
A call link can be used for multiple calls, for example for a weekly meeting at your company. Call links automatically expire after 90 days of inactivity. Of course, as the creator of the call link, you can delete the link at any time.
Create a call link in Signal
You can create a call link in Signal as follows:
- Go to the Calls tab.
- Select Create call link. Optional: give the call link a name and/or enable Approve new participants.
- Share the call link. You can do this by copying the link, sharing it in existing Signal chats, or sharing it through another app.
Edit a call link in Signal
As the creator of the call link, you can also edit call links. You can change the name of the call link or adjust the approval settings. You can edit a call link in Signal as follows:
- Go to the Calls tab.
- Tap or select “Signal call” or the existing call name.
- Choose Add call name or Edit call name to change the call name.
By enabling or disabling Approve new participants, you can decide whether you want to approve participants before they join.
Join a Signal call using a call link
To join a Signal call, simply click the call link.
If the creator of the call has enabled the Approve new participants setting, you will first need to wait until you are admitted to the call.
When you join a call, your profile name and profile photo are shared with all other participants, including participants who join the call after you. If you have set Who can see my phone number to Everyone, participants can also see your phone number.
Remove or block a call participant
Only the creator of the call link can remove or block participants.
To remove or block a participant:
- Tap the screen to display the call controls.
- Swipe up on the call controls.
- Tap the – button next to the person you want to remove from the call.
- Tap Remove or Block. If you tap Remove, the person can still join the call again. If you tap Block, they will no longer be able to join.
Delete a call link in Signal
You can delete a call link in Signal as follows:
- Go to the Calls tab.
- Select the Signal call.
- Select Delete call link.
- Confirm by selecting Delete. Once you delete the link, it will no longer work for anyone. Note: existing calls will continue, but no one else will be able to join.
