What do the check marks or the spinning circle mean in Signal messages?

Vai al contenuto principale

With the small symbols next to your messages in Signal, you can read the message status.

Your message can have four different statuses:

  Spinning circle – Sending

The dotted spinning circle in Signal means your message is still being sent. You have already pressed send in Signal, but the message has not yet reached Signal’s servers. In most cases, this is caused by an issue with your internet connection, but in rare cases it may also be due to a temporary outage. Check the tips on this page to see what you check yourself.

  One check mark – Sent

One check mark in Signal means your message has been successfully sent and has reached Signal’s servers. However, the message has not yet been delivered to the recipient(s).

  Two check marks – Delivered

Two check marks in Signal means the message has been successfully delivered to the recipient(s).

Two filled check marks – Read

Two filled check marks in Signal means the message has been read by the recipient(s). Note: to see read receipts, both you and the recipient must have enabled this in Signal settings. If one of you has disabled it, you will not see filled check marks and you cannot know whether the other person has read the message.
