Signal Android gets split-screen for large screen devices, tablet support coming soon

Oct 30, 2025

Signal releases new beta version for Android: 7.63. What’s new in this update?

In the latest version of Signal for Android, the developers have further improved the recently introduced Signal Secure Backups. Work has also continued on the Polls feature, which will soon be launched on Android, iOS, and Desktop.

A small design change in Signal for Android is the large white letter on a blue background that appears while you scroll through your contacts list. This makes it quicker and easier to navigate to the right contact.

Split-screen for large screen devices

The biggest news in this Android version is support for large screens, such as foldable smartphones. Signal has designed an entirely new user interface with a split-screen view: on the left side of the screen you’ll see your chat list, and on the right your current chat.

This new design is an important step toward Android tablet support. At the moment, Signal only supports iPads. Tablets running Android, such as those from Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei, and Xiaomi, are not yet supported by Signal.

Signal has informed us that Android tablets are already being tested internally, but could not say when this will become available to everyone. As always with Signal: it’s ready when it’s ready.
