Signal has revamped its iOS device-to-device migration experience, making it faster and easier to transfer your Signal account and history from an old iPhone to a new iPhone.
The biggest change is the use of Wi-Fi Aware for the local, end-to-end encrypted wireless connection between the two devices. Signal says this should bring significantly faster transfer speeds and improved reliability.

For users upgrading to a new iPhone, this means a smoother way to move their Signal data directly from one iPhone to another. Alternatively, you can use Signal Secure Backups to transfer your history, including when switching from an iPhone to an Android phone.
Soon, Signal will also introduce local backups on iOS, which can also be used to transfer your history to another iPhone or Android phone.
Availability
The improved device transfer experience using Wi-Fi Aware is available on iPhone 12 (iOS 26) or later. It is currently available in Signal for iOS beta version 8.28 and will soon be rolled out to the stable version.
