Signal Messenger is an end-to-end encrypted messaging service focused on privacy and security. The app is available free of charge for Android, iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), and Desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux).
With Signal, users can send text messages, photos, videos, audio recordings, stickers, GIFs, documents, and other files securely. The app also supports free voice calls, video calls, group chats, stories, disappearing messages, and encrypted group conversations.
To use Signal, a mobile internet connection or Wi-Fi is required. Aside from regular internet or mobile data charges, sending messages and making calls through Signal is completely free.
Unlike many other popular messaging apps, Signal puts user privacy first. The app contains no advertisements, does not track users, and collects minimal user data. In addition, Signal’s code is open source, allowing security experts to independently review how the app works.
Signal is developed by the independent non-profit Signal Foundation. The development of the app is funded through donations and grants rather than advertising or user data collection.
