Does Signal have channels in the app?

Signal doesn’t have a channel feature in the app, like Telegram channels or WhatsApp channels, which allow you to broadcast content to a large audience.

While Signal doesn’t offer channels, there are two ways to achieve something similar on a smaller, more private scale.

Stories

The first option is Stories. In Signal, you can share stories with your friends, family, and acquaintances. You can share them with all your contacts, a selected group of contacts, or within a specific group. With Stories, you’re the only one posting, and viewers can respond privately. You can share text, links, videos, and photos with your audience.

Admin-only groups

The second option is to create a Signal group and adjust the permissions so that only the admin(s) can send messages. Other members can’t reply to the posts, except with emoji reactions. This lets you broadcast content to up to 1,000 people at once without receiving direct replies in the group.

In short, Signal doesn’t have channels, but Stories and Groups can be used to achieve a similar effect on a smaller scale. Whether Signal will ever introduce true broadcast channels for large audiences is unknown. If that happens, you’ll of course read about it on this website.
