Signal experienced a major outage on Monday morning. As a result, users were unable to send or receive messages.
The outage began around 9:25 a.m. CET and lasted until approximately 11:45 a,m. CET
The problems were caused by Amazon Web Services (AWS), which Signal uses. Due to the AWS outage, other apps such as Snapchat, Slack, and Canva also experienced disruptions.
According to AWS, the affected services have since been recovered.
President of Signal Meredith Whittaker has confirmed the outage on social media:
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.
